Two elements of the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) of Mexico City were suspended from their duties after a video captured them carrying an apparently false license plate on their official motorcycle and covering the unit number with plastic material. The incident was recorded by a citizen and shared on social media, where they are seen making an arrest while being confronted by another person.
In the recording, it is observed how the citizen removes an object attached to the motorcycle, revealing that it was a plate made of cardboard or acrylic. He also removed a black bag that covered the official unit number, which was identified as MXCR57.
In response to the video’s dissemination, the SSC reported that the implicated officers were presented to the General Directorate of Internal Affairs to initiate an administrative investigation. It was decided to suspend the agents while the corresponding investigations are carried out, reaffirming the institution’s commitment not to tolerate behaviors contrary to its principles and values.
The citizen who recorded the video, identified as @maxdefensor_oficial on social media, has dedicated himself to documenting situations of authority abuse in the streets of Mexico City. In the recording, the citizen can be heard denouncing that the officers kept both their unit number and the motorcycle plate hidden during the intervention.
During the confrontation, the agents attempted to recover the removed objects, arguing that they were part of their equipment. However, after a brief exchange, the officers mounted their motorcycle and attempted to leave the location without providing further details. The SSC will continue with the investigations and assures that any act that harms the citizenry will be investigated and sanctioned in accordance with internal regulations.
